House + Ballet Studio

The agenda of housing is combined with the program of a dye workshop. Artisans live and work on-site, engaged in a craft that places specific demands on the dimensions of a room. Space is required for fabric to be stretched, soaked, pressed, and hung to dry. Taking inspiration from the work of Japanese textile designers, the project makes use of the affective qualities of layering, filtering, and opacity as a means to regulate the relationship between interior life and exterior appearance.
